肠道细菌及其毒素的移位可能是自身免疫性疾病发病的重要因素。这种猜测在一段时间内被认为是正确的。但是由于没有合适的研究工具，因此没有得到广泛研究。事实上，研究表明压力、手术和轻微胃肠道疾病等显著增加了黏膜通透性。因此，这种情况下显著增加了细菌从肠黏膜进入人体的机率。

一般来说，分子通过肠道进入身体发生在细胞间或通过细胞进入体内。荧光标记的右旋糖苷提供了简单，可靠的方法用于评估体外或体内细胞旁通透性。另一种方法是，通过D-木糖测定跨细胞通透性，也就是说通过D-木糖作为被动载体介导小肠吸收。

FITC-标记的右旋糖苷
一些研究表明压力、手术和轻微胃肠道疾病等显著增加了黏膜通透性。荧光标记的右旋糖苷提供了简单，可靠的方法用于评估半透膜功能。关于FITC-标记的右旋糖苷的分子量，（ 40kDa）,有研究表明在大肠杆菌中大多数蛋白分子量为25-120kDa,这表明最具生物学意义的蛋白质在该范围内。因此Chondrex提供40kDa FITC-右旋糖苷作为相关大分子标记物，用于体外或体内半透膜通透性研究。
检测流程：
1）饲喂前和实验过程中，禁食4小时。
2）口服40 kDa FITC-Dextran (10 mg/250 µl/mouse)。
3）3小时后，收集血浆。
4）1:2 (或更大)用PBS稀释血浆
5）取50-100ul上去到96孔板。读取荧光值：Ex: 490 nm  Em: 530 nm
